Ashley McBryde unveiled “a little more of our story” — even if it’s “maybe more than was intended to be told” — in the honest, raw ballad that appears on the track list of her next full-length album. The powerhouse singer-songwriter debuted “Learned To Lie” as a “surprise” release when she announced the release date of The Devil I Know

“’Learned To Lie’ is a little more of our story. Maybe more than was intended to be told. But it’s honest, and I hope you take away something positive from it,” McBryde wrote in an Instagram caption as she introduced her latest track on Friday (June 2). Her full-length album, The Devil I Know, is due on September 8. “You spoke. I listened. …Buckle up.”

McBryde — who recently released a powerful cross-genre collaboration with Halestorm — shared the title track to her forthcoming record earlier this year. “The Devil I Know” stemmed from a meeting with Bobby Pinson and Jeremy Stover on August 12, 2020. McBryde said in her Instagram caption at that time: “We're all the time time hearing somethin’ from somebody who thinks they know what's best for us. Lose weight, your hair's too curly, change this, change that. When things just seems to go better when you trust your own lens to see what's good for you, stick to the devil you know.”

Before she released “Th Devil I Know,” McBryde debuted the heartfelt song, “Light On In The Kitchen.” She penned that track with Connie Harrington and Jessi Alexander one “beautiful, teary afternoon.”

“I’m noticing now how big a difference such seemingly small comforts have made in my life,” McBryde said at the time. “Things as simple as ‘sure honey’ from a voice I need to hear it from, or just walking into the kitchen for a drink in the middle of the night. How comforting that warm glow has always been... Leave a light on y’all. Big hugs.”

McBryde’s upcoming album will follow Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville, the 13-track collection she released in September 2022. Listen to the latest song from the Grand Ole Opry member here:
