Fidelity Investments looked at over 26,000 corporate-defined contribution plans and 24 million participants.
They found some generational differences in 401(k) balances. The average balance from the second quarter of 2024 was $127,100.
- For boomers, it was $242,200
- For Gen X it was $182,100
- For millennials it was $62,000
- For Gen Z it was $12,000.
