Ashley Cooke insists she wasn’t trying to “start drama” when she accidentally dropped “the F word” in front of her boyfriend’s family — but not the “F word” most listeners probably expect.

Rather than cursing, however, Cooke admits she said “I’d probably spend forever with you,” in the cleverly-written lyrics, and “the early declaration causes her to cringe,” notes a press release from her record label.. The Academy of Country Music New Female Artist of the Year nominee debuted “the f word” on Friday (April 18).

“This song immediately caught my attention from the title,” Cooke said a statement of the ballad written by Lori McKenna, Gordie Sampson and Emily Weisband. “It's brilliantly written and resonates with an experience I had in a past relationship…The song starts with 'I try not to swear,' which cracks me up because I have the mouth of a sailor, often using many f-words.”

Cooke announced the release date of “the f word” — and delivered the first-ever live performance for the crowd of 20,000 — when she opened for powerhouse singer-songwriter Kane Brown last week at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The “your place” star also performed “the f word” earlier this year at the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Music City, notes the release.

Cooke said on Friday, “this song takes me back to the first time I met a guy’s mom and accidentally word vomited that we’d get married 🫠 it’s for the fall fasters, the lovers, the hopeless romantics.. and it’s now all yours.”
