Russell Dickerson brings his signature “infectious energy to life in a vibrant, over-the-top celebration” in the new music video he premiered on Wednesday (July 16).

Dickerson debuted the visual for “Happen To Me,” the single he released earlier this year with a clever nod to Cyndi Lauper’s iconic 80s anthem, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Daniella Mason directed the music video, which follows Dickerson as he “leads a high-spirited crowd through the streets, kicking things off with a full marching band and breakout dance moments that turn every spot into a pop-up dance floor,” reads a press release issued to announce the premiere on Wednesday. The video also includes the now-viral TikTok choreography, and ends with a dance party in a bar with colorful Christmas lights glowing on the ceiling.

‘Happen To Me’ is all about dancing through heartbreak,” Dickerson said in a statement when he released the song, which he wrote with Chase McGillJessie Jo Dillon and Chris LaCorte. “When we first started writing, I thought, ‘What’s a song that makes every girl want to get up and dance when it plays?’ So we kicked off the chorus with ‘Girls just want to have fun,’ and kept building from there.”

“Happen To Me” appears on Dickerson’s upcoming album, Famous Back Home. The 12-track project is due to release on August 22. Watch the new music video here:
