Bobby Bones might be heading back to Dancing With the Stars… but there’s one big problem: his upcoming ankle surgery.
On the Bobby Bones Show, Bobby revealed that he was invited to return for a special Dancing With the Stars taping featuring a live audience full of former contestants. “They invited everyone who’s ever been on the show,” he said. “So I don’t know if they’re putting champions up front or what, but I got asked to go back.” The issue? His surgery is just a few days before the event. “It’s like five or six days after my ankle surgery. I’d be on crutches,” he explained. “Do I really want to fly across the country on crutches?”
The rest of the show wasn’t convinced it was worth the hassle. Amy pointed out how uncomfortable flying could be, while Eddie joked about the perks of boarding early: “You get to go first! You’re special assistance now.” Bobby admitted he wasn’t sure if it was even safe to fly right after surgery and with his pregnant wife staying home, he’d have to make the trip solo. “Who am I gonna go with?” he asked. “I don’t want to be crutches guy.” Eddie offered to tag along, saying, “If you need me to go, I’m going with you.” Amy quickly teased him, “You just want an excuse to leave your family!” Bobby laughed but stayed noncommittal about the whole thing. “I’m TBD,” he said. “If I can move my surgery, maybe I’ll go. But I don’t know if I want to deal with all that just to sit in the crowd.”
Whether or not Bobby makes it back to the Dancing With the Stars ballroom, one thing’s for sure, the memory of his own time on the show (and all the injuries that came with it) is still fresh. “That show is hard on the body,” he said. “I tore my shoulder, broke a tooth… I totally get how Dylan Efron broke his nose rehearsing this season.”
Guess we’ll find out soon if Bobby’s ankle, and schedule, will let him take one more spin back to the dance floor.
